BF Goodrich KO2 Review

Last Updated on July 25, 2021 by Stephen Tillman

For those adventurous types or for those that have jeeps, SUVs, and pickups that need to go places, that are not actually paved and maybe a bit extreme, I may have found an interesting set of all-terrain tires from BF Goodrich, the KO2’s. These tires are aimed for jeeps and SUVs and are one of the toughest and most popular all-terrain all-season tires you will ever see. Well, that is at least what the manufacturer promises, and I think that we may have a winner here.

Main Features Of The BF Goodrich KO2

Target Audience

The company has released some excellent all-terrain tires in the past with the KO series, and it is one of the most prominent names in the tire market overall and based on that and the reviews that this tire has received from buyers I think that it is a worthy competitor. I decided to try out these tires and see for my self if and whether it can deliver a good enough performance for every terrain and every season. While I am pretty confident just by looking at its price, I think it needs further testing, and I need some offroading.

Specs and Features

Just by looking at the manufacturer’s and sellers’ website, you can see that these tires are a bit expensive, but then again if you want safety and reliability for your SUV, Jeep, or light truck in difficult terrains, you might want to shell out a bit more. What impressed me the most was that these tires come with a great 50,000 mile limited tread warranty, and it also has a 6 year warranty for asphalt wear, which is improved by 15 percent. Gravel endurance is doubled as well, at least that is what the manufacturer states. These tires are designed and engineered for up to 50 percent off-road use, and I believe this claim, but we will see about it.

The company has used a rubber compound for the sidewall of this tire that doubles the thickness of its predecessor meaning that it is much tougher and stronger than its predecessor. On top of that, it is certified for split and bruise resistance, without forgetting I should mention that the sidewall is taken from the Baja KR2 which is a desert racing tire. Moving on it has two steel belts in its body that are reinforced with nylon, also to make things more interesting the company has added a polyester cord and ply construction known as Tri-Gard.

The interlocking tread blocks are an excellent choice for all-terrain conditions and this time around the company has optimized them a little to deliver better performance for icy conditions. The company states that it delivers at least 10 percent more traction on the mud and 19 percent on the snow. Also, this tire is branded with the sever snowflake symbol meaning it has passed all the requirements for winter weather driving. Moving on the 3D siping around the tread will deliver more traction and grip on the snow. It also comes in sizes to fit form 15 to 20 inches in size with load ratings up to E.

First Impression

When I first saw these tires I was amazed. These look like they can get the job done in every condition. To be honest, I am a little biased since I have used the first generation of these tires, which I have loved, but these are even better, even without using them at all.

Installing them on the Ford Ranger was pretty quick and easy. They also looked badass on the car and I am extremely impressed with the results, at least in terms of looks. The first spin around the block proved everything, but of course, it will go through extensive testing without a doubt.

Testing

After the break-in period, the first thing that impressed me with the BF Goodrich KO2 is that it is extremely durable and strong. That is mostly due to the compound used, which is combined with the CoreGuard technology, and this one will resistant to chips and tears throughout its life. Also, the tread wear was pretty even and smooth, I reckon it will well last its listed life.

Traction on the dry pavement was exceptional tight cornering and accelerating was extremely smooth and I am just impressed with what it does. The thing that got me the most with these tires is that they inspire a lot of confidence, traction galore with this one. In wet asphalt, you would expect problems, which is an issue most all-terrain tires suffer, but not the BF Goodrich KO2.

These tires resist hydroplaning even at higher speeds and the braking distance is pretty much perfect. Before moving on I should state that even in the winter they were pretty much perfect overall no exceptions, traction, grip, and confidence, all here no weak points.

Don’t worry we are at the fun part now. The BF Goodrich KO2’s were excellent for off-roading, really marvelous performance delivering the best traction I have ever seen in such a model. To prove their claims the company has put these tires on their racing team for the Baja 1000 race, which is the hardest off-road course in the world, and they have won in their class by a margin. Dirt, sand, mud, creeks, grass will all be conquered by these tires, especially in the mud with the mud-buster bars which proved to be exceptional overall.

Verdict

I don’t want to say this but, the BF Goodrich KO2’s proved to be the perfect all-terrain tires for SUVs, jeeps, CUVs, and light trucks. They do everything excellently and leave nothing to be desired. I don’t think that anyone can be disappointed in these tires, they do everything well, and are without any disadvantage.
