It’s common for the majority of the tires to underperform on rough terrains. The main reason for this is because they were not explicitly designed to handle such terrain and overexposure to these conditions may affect their lifespan.
If you tend to drive on different terrains more often, it would be beneficial for you to get all-terrain tires. The best thing about these tires is their ability to function well on different terrains without the need of changing and replacing them all the time. Cooper Discoverer A/T3 is an excellent example of all-terrain tires that we have today. The manufacturers intended for this tire to be used by SUVs, pickups, and light trucks.
Main Features Of The Cooper Discoverer A/T3
Impressive On and Off-road Traction
The best thing about Discoverer A/T3 is the fact that it can perform better off-road and on highways. The tread design has been optimized to increase traction and grip on both of these surfaces, which helps you to experience a better ride regardless of the pavement. The five ribbed design helps to improve stability and handling on any terrain.
Comfortable and Quiet Ride
Even though it’s an all-terrain tire, the Discoverer A\T3 is designed to offer a comfortable and quiet ride on and off the road. The feature is made possible through the presence of zigzag siping structure that helps to reduce road noise. The siping structure also helps to improve tread wear, which gives it a longer lifespan. It’s not common to come across all-terrain tires that can provide comfort on and off the roads these days.
Self-Cleaning Capabilities
The tire can keep and maintain a clean image through self-cleaning abilities. The siping structure works together with the lateral grooves to get rid of the stones and pebbles. The result is a tire that shows a fresh look every time it leaves a rough road.
Excellent Dry, Wet, and Snow Traction
Even though the tire performs excellently on the dry surface, it also holds its ground on wet and snow surfaces as well. The tread compound that has high contents of silica combines with the tread pattern to improve wet surface traction. They also play a crucial role in snow surfaces. The bottom line is that you get a tire that offers stability and better handling on wet and snow surfaces.
Durable and Strong Tire
The two steel belts that are reinforced by the nylon wrapping help to improve the strength and durability of the tire. The presence of a polyester cord body helps to enhance the comfort of the ride as well.
Summary
Finding an all-terrain tire that performs quite like Cooper Discoverer A/T3 is rare, and only the best brands can compete with it. It stands out from the rest in terms of on and off-road performances. The ride comfort is impressive even for an all-terrain tire, as many of them are known to lack this quality.
The ability to clean itself means that the tire will never be clogged by mud or pebbles, which may affect its overall traction and performance. It performs pretty well on deep snow surfaces even though it’s not a winter dedicated tire.
The final verdict is that Cooper Discoverer A/T3 is one of the best all-terrain that we have today. It delivers outstanding performances without sacrificing ride comfort.
Comparison with General Grabber AT2
General Grabber AT2 is one of the few tires that can compete with the Discoverer AT3. However, the AT2 performs exceptionally on rocky and dirt roads compared to the AT3. Even with this said, the two tires do have an equal level of performances on dry pavements and their traction on this surface is fantastic.
Cooper Discoverer AT3 has better wet-surface traction compared to the AT2 because of the circumferential grooves, zigzag sipes, and a silica tread compound which makes it possible to operate on this surface.
Grabber AT2 is a dedicated snow tire and has a snowflake emblem which proves this fact.
I tested both of them on my Chevy Traverse, and I can say that they really out-performed by expectations. That’s why I recommended them in our tires for Chevy Traverse article. The two tires are great and will provide you with the best performances.
Conclusion
Cooper Discoverer A/T3 is a tire worth the price tag. It has proven to perform relatively better than the majority of the tires in its class. I would highly recommend it. You can go here to compare prices.
