Falken Pro G4 AS Review

Falken has delivered some excellent tires lately, especially in the high-performance all-season segment. One of the most notable examples in this category is the Falken Pro G4 A/S. This tire is designed for coupes and sedans, to deliver performance yet to deliver also durability and comfort. This sounds a little confusing and a bit too good to be true, so I don’t really expect to deliver all that, but overall the performance should be good. Let’s get on with it.

Target Audience

The manufacturer states that the Falken Pro G4 A/S is a tire that will deliver you exceptional performance in any weather or climate. It has a wide range of optimized qualities to back that up, at least on paper. I wanted to see whether or not this tire can deliver all those qualities, and I have to admit that I don’t have high expectations, but then again further testing and experimenting with this tire should reveal its true qualities.

Specs and Features

Looking at the seller’s and manufacturers’ website you will see that this tire has tons of features, which is pretty interesting to see. Before moving on I should mention that they have a pretty competitive and aggressive cost. First, off I should mention that the Falken Pro G4 A/S comes with a 65,000-mile tread warranty for the models with H and V speed rating and 45,000-mile tread warranty for the W rated models, which sounds pretty good. Moving on it comes in different sizes to fit rims with sizes from 15 to 20 inches in diameter, so far so good.

The company has used a pretty interesting technology here, which is also pretty unique, the Dynamic Range Technology. This technology is responsible for the high-silica tread compound of the tire, that goes perfectly with the asymmetric tread pattern, which is specifically designed for the added traction and grip on different conditions, including wet and dry. On top of that, I found out that this tire is built to be pliable even in colder weather so you get better handling.

That feature will increase the snow and ice performance of the tire since the asphalt temperature drops significantly. I haven’t seen an all-season tire that can deliver a good enough performance in winter, and I doubt that we will see any time soon, so be stay vigilant about this. The Falken Pro G4 A/S has 3D siping around the shoulders to create a more biting edge to help it in winter but to also deliver more stable performance and responsiveness in dry weather. It also has a variable tread depth design that is designed to keep the road noise to a minimum.

First Impression

As a first impression, I can say that these tires look a bit like racing slicks, but with more pronounced tread blocks. However, this is a good indicator that they will look good on different vehicles.

I installed these on the BMW 330i and I think that these look excellent on this vehicle. The first spin around the block showed that this tire is comfortable, but a little wear and testing will reveal further results.

Testing

I spent about 3 months with the Falken Pro G4 A/S’s between August and October, and I have tested them extensively, so I can deliver you a better review here. First things first, the treadwear on these tires was pretty good, especially considering that these are not marketed as touring tires. I think that these will last a long time and you will have plenty of fun. Also due to the decrease in rolling resistance, these were pretty fuel-efficient. Moving on the comfort levels and ride quality were super smooth and refined, this was my favorite thing about these tires. However, the road noise was a bit too much especially on harsh concrete or higher speeds.

Dry traction of these tires was something that sets these tires apart from the competition. I didn’t feel seeking more traction in sharp cornering and emergency maneuvers. I got to say that the cornering stability and the braking were above the average in this class, delivering reliability overall. Next up I have to praise the responsiveness of the Falken Pro G4 A/S, which delivered great feedback from the road and I had plenty of fun, on the dry that is.

On wet asphalt, they were pretty smooth as well, even under pouring rain. You won’t lose confidence with these tires at all, and the grip was exceptional in cornering, even when you take it a little sharper than usual. Also, braking distance was not affected at all, giving me peace of mind. Moving on I should mention that the snow traction was acceptable in light winter, but moving on to slushy and icy roads, I don’t think that it can deliver a winter tire performance, not even close.

Verdict

If I had to describe the Falken Pro G4 A/S in just three words I would say mediocre yet reliable. This is because these tires don’t offer anything exceptional yet I think that they won’t let 95% of drivers down. If you are looking for a value-based tire, that will deliver adequate all-season performance and durability, you are in the right place.
