Hankook Optimo H724 Review

Last Updated on May 23, 2021 by Stephen Tillman

It is always interesting to check the budget market when it comes to car tires since you don’t know what gems can you discover. Now here I have one interesting budget all-season tire that is designed to deliver durability and reliability to you while you are driving, the Hankook Optimo H724. This tire is pretty interesting and it has garnered a high number of favorable reviews, and I actually think that it may be a good option, but that solely depends on your standards. Let’s see.

Main Features Of The Hankook Optimo H724

Target Audience

The company says that these all-season tires are suitable for a lot of cars and have scored pretty high in customer satisfaction ratings, which is true and the also state that they deliver better handling, elevated levels of comfort and low noise, which we will see later. The biggest reason as to why I wanted to test these tires was because I think that budget buyers have the right to know how their tires perform and are they worth buying.

Specs and Features

I have to give it to the manufacturer here, these tires are one of the most popular tires in the market, especially for family cars, since they promise a lot of comforts and are stock tires on some Hyundai and KIA models, and yeah they are pretty affordable. One of the most interesting things that these tires promise is the 70,000 miles treadwear warranty which is pretty much perfect if it can deliver that. It also comes available for rim sizes from 14 to 16 inches which is great for most family-oriented cars in the market.

The feature that the company is the proudest of is the pitch design technology that determines the quantity of the tread blocks that are around the circumferential area. The Hankook Optimo H724 is fitted with larger tread blocks with more pitches, to increase the biting edges of this tire, which should deliver a good performance. This should also decrease the noise levels of this tire, which is one of the company’s biggest claims for this tire. This tire also has abrasion-resistant construction that should prove the durability claims of these tires.

interestingly enough these tires are very light in weight and which comes as a result of the lighter but way stronger belt that delivers better durability to this tire. This new material is very promising in my opinion but without further testing, it is hard to talk about concrete results. The bead filler of the compound is also better than on its predecessor at least on paper, as it is a new one and extends to the sidewall of the tire, which overall should be enough to handle most of the abuse. Before moving on I should mention that the single strand bead wire with high tensile strength is responsible for the high amounts of comfort.

First Impression

Seeing these tires fo the first time, they don’t leave a mark, they are pretty much stock and simple, nothing exceptional to be noted. However, they are pretty light I can say that about these.

Installing them on a KIA Optima, they looked okay on the car, nothing exceptional. Then again after I took them for a spin I noticed that they don’t make any noise, which I expected but not at that degree.

Testing

I tested these tires extensively and they have been on the Optima for about two months now and I have put 17,000 miles on them, and I feel pretty confident that I can give a good review about them. So let’s first start about the durability claims.

The Hankook Optimo H724’s are excellent in terms of durability, as they showed a pretty even wear all around, and while passing the 70,000-mile mark can be a little hard, they can easily push too late 60,000 miles. Also, the comfort of these tires while driving was exceptional, one of its strongest suits, combined with the near to none noise of these wheels you can dry for a long time without any headache.

Let’s get one thing straight these tires are not designed to deliver superior performance, marvelous grip or high-speed stability. These are tires that will keep you on the road comfortably and deliver a great sense of reliability, and that much should be apparent from the price of these. So based on that I can say that the performance on dry asphalt was better than most of its budget competitors. On the highway, they felt good and could keep up with the pace, and I can definitely say that you would not feel like wanting more when cornering, but then again these aren’t suited for spirited drivers.

On wet roads, these were pretty impressive, better than I expected at least. Not the best in the market, but they won’t put you at risk, only you will have to be careful at all times, something that you need to practice always. On the snow though, they weren’t the best tires I have ever seen, they aren’t particularly bad, but I felt the need for more. However, if you live in an area with harsher winters these tires might be the wrong pick for you.

Verdict

I can say that these tires are an exceptional set for budget buyers that seek comfort and long tread life. While they are not suited for bigger cars or high-performance vehicles they will deliver perfect performance for most family sedans and coupes. Reliable at all times, but not the best, if you don’t need a lot and want something that you can rely on, the Hankook Optimo H724’s might be the perfect pick for you.
